Dr. Leonard Linkow passes away

Dr. Leonard Linkow, considered by many to be the "Father of Implant Dentistry," passed away on January 26, 2017 at the age of 90.
He served as president of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry in 1974 and was an Honored Fellow of the AAID. He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology and served as president of that organization in 1993. He received the Aaron Gershkoff/Norman Goldberg Award in 1974 and the AAID Foundation presented him with the Isaih Lew Memorial Research Award in 1990.
Dr. Linkow published 18 books, authored more than 100 clinical articles, and has three institutes named after him. He holds 36 USD patents in dental implants. In 50+ years of practice, Dr. Linkow has treated more than 100,000 patients. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the AAID in 2015.
He became a dentist in 1952 after graduating from New York University College of Dentistry, He served as a paratrooper after World War II. After a stellar high-school baseball career, he was signed to a contract by the New York Giants to play for their minor league baseball affiliate in Springfield, Ohio.
