The David Steflik Memorial Student Research Grants are available to all dental students and those in post-graduate and residency programs. Dr. Steflik was a Researcher and Professor at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta since 1979. There he served as a Professor of Surgery and Director of Research for Orthopedic Surgery. He was also a Professor of cell biology-anatomy in the School of Graduate Studies and held an appointment at the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Steflik's research on tissue responses to implanted biomaterials led to breakthroughs in dental implants.

The AAID Foundation Student Research Grants are appropriate for new investigators, post-graduate students or those resuming research careers.

Grants are awarded annually. Applicants may request up to $2,000 to fund their research project for up to a two-year grant period. Applicants also have the opportunity to attend a future AAID Annual Conference and present the project findings once the research is complete, with reimbursement for travel costs. The AAID Foundation will provide an additional $500 for travel expenses to the Annual Conference.
