Reinstatement of Lapsed Associate Fellow or Fellow Membership
If your Associate Fellow or Fellow membership has lapsed, the AAID provides a pathway for reinstatement to voting membership.
Former Associate Fellows and Fellows may apply for reinstatement to the membership status previously held. While the reinstatement application is pending review, the applicant will be activated as an AAID General Member.
Reinstatement applications are reviewed three times per year in conjunction with AAID Board of Trustees meetings, which are typically held in January, June, and during the AAID Annual Conference. The Annual Conference is generally held in the fall, between September and November.
Application Requirements
To be considered for reinstatement, the following must be submitted by the announced application deadline:
• A completed reinstatement application for the membership type being sought; and
• The $1,185 application fee.
Review and Re-examination
After reviewing the application, the Admissions & Credentials Board will determine whether experiential requirements or re-examination are needed to document the necessary credentials for certification and election by the Board of Trustees for reinstatement.
The Admissions & Credentials Board may also waive experiential requirements and re-examination by a three-fourths vote of the Admissions & Credentials Board membership in attendance at the meeting.
Lapses of Less Than Four Years
Former Associate Fellows and Fellows whose membership has lapsed for fewer than four years may be eligible to pay retroactive dues and assessments for the lapsed period in order to restore uninterrupted voting membership history.
If re-examination is required, the following will apply:
• Lapsed four to seven years: The applicant for reinstatement must take Part 1, the written portion of the Associate Fellow Examination.
• Lapsed eight years or more: The applicant for reinstatement must take Part 1, the written portion of the Associate Fellow Examination, and the oral/case examination for the membership class the applicant formerly held.
